First the good, my research revealed that the InSinkErator Badger 5 is a very popular product. There were over a hundred reviews on this particular unit. The Badger is also extremely affordable(honestly cheap is probably a better adjective).

Now here’s the bad, unfortunately of those 100 plus reviews, more than half were negative. Numerous reviewers complained of cracks forming in plastic housing on the InSinkErator Badger. There were also numerous complaints that the Badger is an extremely loud disposal unit.

The InSinkErator Badger 5 disposer does come with a 2-year in-home service warranty, but reviewers commented that the Badger will survive just long enough to make it past the 2-year warranty, but that’s about it. Most reviewers stated that the Badger either failed completely or began to show cracks in the grind chamber within 5 years after installation.

The overwhelmingly bad reviews were actually kind of surprising because InSinkErator is a very reputable brand. However, while researching the Evolution Disposer units (also made by InSinkErator) there were nothing but very positive responses. It appears that whatever issues InSinkErator was having with the Badger models, they corrected through the Evolution series. Overall, though the price of the Badger may be attractive if you’re strapped for cash, do yourself a favor and upgrade to the Evolution series. You’ll likely save money in the long run from not having to replace your disposer within the next 5 years.

This is a powerful disposal unit. One of the reviewers said that the Waste King 9940 has tons of power, fast speed, and is well built disposal unit. In order to test out this product, another reviewer filled the sink with steak gristle, dinner scraps, and some left over popcorn seeds all of which the 9940 made short work out of. He had to look in the flapper to make sure the food was gone, and amazingly enough this disposal unit never slowed down.

There were a few concerns in regards to the Waste King 9940. One reviewer felt that the 9940 had slower drainage speed than it’s previous unit. Of the numerous reviews we encountered on the InSinkErator Evolution, the reviews were overwhelmingly positive.  One reviewer stated, “This unit could be the quietest and most vibration free disposer on the market.  The anti-vibration innovations work.  When no water or waste is in the unit, all your hear is a mild hum.  If it was much quieter, you wouldn’t know it was on.”  Other reviewers raved about was the size of the Evolution Compact unit.  They felt that the small size of the unit allowed for more storage under the sink and easier access for maintenance on plumbing.

Reviewers (2 of 90) did seem to have one knock on the Evolution Compact Disposer.  They felt that InSinkErator should design the unit so a special 3-prong cord plugs and twist-locks into the bottom of the disposer, while still allowing for a hard-wired option.  This would apparently eliminate all wiring directly to the disposer, thus preventing mis-wiring of the cord.
